Ten Day Rule
यह एक important radiation protection guideline है, जिसका use reproductive age वाली females (लगभग 12–50 years) में pelvic और lower abdominal radiography के दौरान किया जाता है।
Concept :
Female menstrual cycle के पहले 10 दिन (first 10 days from the onset of menstruation) में radiological exam करना safest माना जाता है। इस समय ovulation नहीं हुआ होता और pregnancy होने की संभावना बहुत कम होती है।
Purpose :
- Fetus को accidental radiation exposure से बचाना।
Radiation-induced congenital defects और miscarriage का risk minimize करना।
Clinical Practice :
- जब भी possible हो, pelvic और lower abdomen imaging इस 10-day window में schedule करनी चाहिए।
Emergency cases में clinical judgment और shielding techniques का use किया जाता है।
यह rule patient safety और ALARA principle (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) को support करता है।
